Healing the Kidneys
The kidneys are one of your most critical detoxification organs inside your entire body. The kidneys are responsible for processing all liquids that enter the body. Their #1 job is to keep your blood clean and healthy. They also maintain a proper fluid balance within the body, balancing salt, potassium and acids.
What do the kidneys need for proper function?
WATER. MINERALS. This is a common theme that I discuss at every one of my classes, but never more important than when discussing kidney function. When a water shortage is created, the body turns on its defensive systems. The brain tells the body to hold onto water at all costs. It tells the kidneys to stop urinating and tightens the blood vessels of the cardiovascular system, particularly to areas of least importance. It stimulates the increase of salt retention to retain water. This will cause swelling, edema, high blood pressure, damage to the arterial walls, toxicity, kidney failure, skin problems, fatigue, body odor, sweating excessively, lymph blockages, abdominal swelling, weight gain and of course, kidney stones.
This system will stay activated until you get hydrated! Some people stay in this cycle for years!
What happens when kidneys cannot separate urine from the blood?
When kidneys cannot separate urine from the blood, urine circulates in the body and deposits wastes into the blood vessels, joints, tissues and organs. These accumulate over time. It will deposit these toxins where there is the least amount of circulation because its job is to keep them out of your bloodstream. Wherever waste is stored, bacteria are present to break down the waste. This is called heel spurs, arthritis, gout, chronic joint pain, or any number of other similar conditions.
What interferes with kidney function?
Overstimulation (caffeine), dehydration, fatigue, overeating, processed foods, eating meat, gallstones, constipation, prescription and narcotic drugs, antacids, sugar, no exercise (sedentary lifestyle), smoking, alcohol, soda and poor quality synthetic vitamin supplements all interfere with proper kidney function.
How does caffeine affect kidney function?
One cup of coffee takes the equivalent of 3 cups of water to remove caffeine, resulting in chornic dehydration. So here is how it works. Caffeine enters the body, which is a toxin to the nervous system. This stimulates the adrenals to secrete stress hormones to deal with the toxicity. This give a jolt of energy, which is a false impression. In other words, the energy you feel is from the body releases steroid to deal with a toxin, not from the food or liquid itself. To remove the toxic caffeine, the body must take water from the cells, at the ratio of 3 to 1 which results in cellular dehydration. For example, an alcohol hangover is simply an extreme dehydration condition where the brain is starved of water.
What is the conventional medicine approach?
When people have swelling or edema, they are often given diuretics. So let’s review. When dehydrated, the body turns on a survival system to retain water. It does this to keep critical organs hydrated such as the heart and brain. When you force a pharmaceutical grade diuretic on the body, what happens? You are over-riding the body’s survival system, resulting in more intensified severe dehydration.
Why do people have kidney failure and even transplants?
The main reason people have failing kidneys is because they are in a chronic state of dehydration. They are drinking everything BUT water. Many people drink water, but never properly hydrate their system, because we drink DEAD water. You must drink quality water with minerals. Alcohol consumption, too much animal protein, excessive caffeine intake and prescription diuretics can all lead to kidney failure.
Why does meat cause a problem?
Meat is very difficult for humans to digest, and not designed to eat excessive quantities of meat. Some quality meat is fine, like one small portion daily. Meat is extremely high in uric acid. ALL uric acid goes to the kidneys for processing. If there is more uric acid than the kidneys can process, the uric acid concentrates in the blood, depositing in areas of low circulation (toes, feet, fingers, etc.) Excessive uric acid forms crystals that are sharp as knives and cause major debilitating pain in many people.
How do kidney stones form?
There are four types; calcium oxalate, uric acid, struvite and cystine. Calcium oxalate are the most common, so we will focus there. As oxalates enter the body, the body utilizes calcium to dilute and offset this chemical. The uric acid and calcium start to form crystals and deposit them when they are created faster than the body can eliminate. High oxalate foods are:
MEAT – ALL types, seafood is the worst
Other sources of less concern: spinach, rhubarb, chocolate, parsley, beet roots, strawberries, wheat, pepper and nuts. Only need to avoid is having major kidney stone problems.
What are symptoms of kidney problems?
Pain in side and back, below rib cage; waves of radiating pain sometimes extending all the way to the groin area, bloody or cloudy urine, painful urination, nausea, vomiting, urge to urinate but cannot and fever and chills (indicating and underlying infection as well)
What about calcium?
Plant based calcium will block stone formation by binding with oxalates and removing them. Calcium supplements from rocks (95% of everything in store) will increase stones by over 20%. BUY WHOLE FOOD CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS ONLY!
How do I heal my kidneys?
1. Water and Minerals
This cannot be possible stressed enough. All other liquids dehydrate you and cause a burden on your kidneys. The most damaging liquids on your kidneys in order are the following: soda, anything else carbonated, beer, other alcohol, energy drinks, coffee and dairy milk.
How do I know if I am hydrated?
Your urine should be a pale yellow, very light in color. If dark yellow or even orange colored, you are severely dehydrated. If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. You should drink water throughout the day and drink quality LIVING water with the proper mineral balances.
2. Avoid sugar, caffeine, excessive meat and soy
Sugar upsets the mineral balance between calcium and magnesium. Now children ages 5 and 6 years old are getting kidney stones when this was unheard of at any other time in history. The combination of children eating too much sugar and not drinking water is the result.
When sedentary the bones release more calcium which can lead to increased stone formation. Good circulation is critical to proper fluid ratio and balance in the body.
There are many amazing herbs that heal the kidneys such as stinging nettles, chanca piedra (stone breaker), hydrangea, stone root, juniper berries, gravel root, corn silk and uva ursi.
