How to Turn Average Pasta Sauce into a Culinary Delight

From Blah to Hurrah! How to turn average pasta sauce into a culinary delight!

Food... we all love it but who really has the time to make a batch of homemade marinara. This is when I turn to my age old trick of using herbs and spices to turn a jar of plain marinara into something that is worthy of a culinary award. Not only is spicing up your food with herbs healthy but it's surprisingly tasty!

When working with a typical jar of spaghetti sauce I usually like to incorporate any or all of the following:

  • Fresh Garlic (4 cloves)

  • Fresh Basil (2T to 3T)

  • Fresh Oregano (1T to 2T)

  • Chopped Onion (1 medium)

  • Fresh Chives (2T to 3T)

  • Fresh Parsley (1T to 2T)

  • Fresh Rosemary (1t to 2t)

I will start with a little olive oil in the bottom of my pan on medium heat and then add the chopped onion and crushed garlic. I like to sautee the onions and garlic for a couple minutes and then add the fresh chopped herbs to release the aromas and flavors. After another minute or so I pour in the jar of sauce and let it simmer while I prepare the rest of the meal. This is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser!!

Happy seasoning!
