Healthy Party Recipes

In the last few years I have found myself in many kitchens with like minded moms trying to navigate getting "healthy" food on the table that both they and their children will not only eat, but ENJOY.  During one of those times a mom asked me,

"What do I do for their birthday party?"

Many moms are working so hard to avoid the processed foods in their child's diet and have experienced so many wins and breakthroughs, that they don't want to bring in the processed junk food even for a special occasion.  At that time my first daughter was only a few months old and we had not had the privilege of celebrating a birthday event.  In all honesty I didn't know what to say!

Fast forward three years later and we were about to celebrate our precious daughter Naomi's 3rd Birthday.  We decided to keep it small and just invite a few of our close family and friends for a kid friendly party in our home. If you know me, you know that I love experimenting with recipes to find healthy alternatives for my family, and this party was going to be no different.  That question posed to me years ago was ringing in my ears, and I wanted to find an answer.

After searching the internet and weighing the options, I found some amazing party food ideas. Most of the time, "healthy" desserts taste like chalk and the kids (and most adults) won't even touch healthy alternatives to their favorite dishes. So I knew I had to find things that were not only going to be nutritious, but would be 3-year-old approved. Surprisingly, these recipes blew me and everyone else away. The kids ate everything as fast as possible and I was shocked at how easy it was to please the little mouths that came to celebrate our daughter.

I hope this encourages you to try new alternatives at home, but also, to not be afraid of serving healthy foods at your kid's birthday parties, instead of the processed foods that are so common and often expected. Enjoy making these recipes a part of your family's traditional party foods!
